Project Description:
I have a huge project which I am focusing on at present and I am not sure where to begin. I thought maybe you could help me with this or at least point me in the right direction. I am not knowledgeable enough to even know what programming language would be best suited to this web application and that is where I could use some advice. I have several Web development projects on the go at present and I have three programmers working on a few of them. However, they are not taking on any more work at the moment since I keep them so busy. The site/Web application I am focusing on right now is very complex and has elements that must be kept confidential so I am hesitant to send any site specifications at this time. In fact I do not even know for sure if the main function of the site is possible. I am an amateur site creator (HTML, PHP, MySql, Javascript) but this Web application is way beyond my capabilities and needs professional programmers with experience in a wide variety of programming languages (as far as I can tell). My first priority is to figure out how to do what I wish to do on this site. Perhaps you can help with this? The goal is to display small mouseover balloons Tooltips like the following: vibrantmedia.com OR bleepingcomputer.com on affiliate's sites on keywords "allowed" by the affiliates and taken from a master list sent to the application through regular updates. These balloons show up similar to "Tool Tips" when a user mouses over them. However, there is another element which throws a wrench into the mix. These balloons must display clickable links inside the balloon. There is also another element to this which is the most difficult part. The keywords which have the links come from my server so there has to be a connection of some kind between the affiliate site and my server but does not necessarily have to be a permanent connection and it could just be an automatic update of the application's keyword lists which will change every day (every hour?) or even an update performed manually by the affiliate site owner or Web master. The keyword links will be created throughout the site pages as the keyword lists change through an update or as the affiliate site Web master allows specific keywords to display the balloon links on mouseover. I have come to the conclusion that this can be done with two applications: one on the affiliate site server and one on my server. However, I am not sure if this will work or not. Another solution was to have each page on the affiliate site call a Javascript which is created dynamically on my server and sent to the page calling it. This would Javascript could be created dynamically with Perl pr PHP or whatever. The purpose here is to overcome the hurdle of the wide variety of programming languages used on various sites (PHP, HTML, ASP, Java etc etc) and the dynamically created Javascript could manage anything and the balloon links could display on any site. Your ideas would be welcome here. Without giving the entire thing away this is about all I can say at this time. I know it is not much to go on but if you have any ideas on how to accomplish this please let me know. In order to continue I would need to have a confidentiality agreement in hand. |
